Have you ever noticed when you want a particular car, you start to see it everywhere? It’s not a coincidence, because you are seeing evidence of what you are looking for. I could send 2 different people into the same room, tell one to look for rude people and the other to look for nice, helpful people and they will find what I have asked them to look for.
I thought about this concept years ago and realized I really needed to focus more on looking for financial opportunities rather than wallowing in financial frustration. My favorite affirmation became: “Money is everywhere, I just need to look for it.” I was amazing what began to happen! I was finding dollar bills in the street-literally! I was also finding solutions for clients that was paying me more and the list goes on… If you don’t believe me, try it! I don’t mean just one time, but for a few days and see what happens. Say to yourself every day, “Money is everywhere, I just need to look for it.”
Let me share with you an application of this concept. I call it creating a “money vortex”. We have done this every time we have saved for a major purchase. We set up a separate account for the purchase and name it. It could be “New House” or “New Car”. We now see the money in the account intended for that purpose, which is not enough in the beginning. That’s when the fun begins…We start to focus on finding money to fund this account! Every time we don’t spend money someplace else, or we earn extra money, we know we can add it to this account. We then track it weekly, discuss the results and actually enjoy the process! This is not just an effective technique, it also takes the drudgery out of the saving process.
