Do you know how powerful perception is? How you perceive yourself and everything around you? We first learned about this concept years ago and it was a game changer for us.
Years ago we read the book, Quantum Success, by Sandra Ann Taylor. In her book, Sandra talks about the power of perception. She explains how your perception, positive or negative creates an emotion, and in turn triggers a chemical reaction in your brain to match the emotion. This chemical reaction, when repeated over and over can create a new thought process, because the new neural pathway has been created and the old one, (old thoughts and beliefs) has shut down from lack of use.
What all this means is that it is possible to change your thought process over time by changing your perception. If a negative perception is replaced by a positive one, and repeatedly over time, a new thought process replaces the old. Now, I’m not a neuroscientist, however, I know this concept works because I have experienced it.
The best way to explain how this works is to share what happened for me and Chris years ago. We both wanted a new house and spotted one down the street that we fell in love with. Every day I ran by the house and saw myself living there. I would come home from my run and tell Chris if I saw someone in the yard, a light on, or the “For Sale” sign still up. I even went online and pulled up the virtual tour every day and imagined myself inside the house and how I would decorate it. Chris and I even referred to it as “our house”. This gave me great joy, and I took this joy with me every day because this feeling was reinforced by my run, seeing the house and the virtual tour every day. I replaced thoughts and feelings of “I can’t have that.” with the joy of having it! This affected my activity throughout the day as I perceived my goal as already being attained. Roughly 6 months after that process began, we closed on that house!
What goal do you have that a change in perception could be life changing? Is there a business you drive by every day that you would like as your next big client? How could you change your perception of your spouse that could improve your relationship? Do you see them as loving, giving and providing? How do you perceive yourself? Do you see yourself as deserving, and successful? The list can go on and on… I encourage you to look at your perceptions and discover more productive perceptions. Repeat the feeling with your new perception, and transform your life.
