Have you made your New Year Resolutions? Maybe you want to lose weight, stop smoking, or make more money? You make these resolutions with the best intentions of improving the quality of your life and really want them to happen!
Right? So why do so many people fall short and give up mid-February? The lofty expectations come to a screeching halt because the underlying habits that cause change are not addressed.
Every year I joke to my husband that my New Year’s Resolutions are to; 1) Gain 10 pounds, 2) Start smoking, and
3) Stop working out. I have said this for the last 8 years and not one of them has happened! Hmm… The reason they haven’t happened is because I have developed strong daily habits that reinforce the opposite. These daily habits are stronger than any verbal “commitment” I could make, even if wasn’t joking!
It’s really the New Year’s Habits that should be the focus. What new habits could you create that could improve the quality of your life? No matter how small, the ripple effects are amazing! What if you got up one hour earlier? Well, it could add 30 hours of productive time to your month. What could that look like at the end of the year? What if you cut back the number of meals you ate out and saved the difference? What unproductive habits do you have that could easily be replaced by a more successful habit, like reading a self-help book for an hour a day instead of watching a mindless TV show?
Successful people know wins aren’t often made from home runs, but doubles, singles, and even some walks. You can change your life one good habit at a time. I challenge you to create 3 new good habits this year that could change the rest of your life!
